Cassandra Wilson - Glamoured (2003) Retail CD
Music > Albums > Cassandra Wilson - Glamoured (2003) Retail CD
added on August 12, 2008, at 14:49 by musicworld| Of the great multitude of jazz singers around today, two immediately stand out. These are Dianne Reeves who goes someway to filling the void left by Ella and Sass by her stellar singing of the standards and the more earthy and sensual Cassnadra Wilson. A couple of the latters earlier Blue Notes ("New moon daughter" and "Belly of the sun") deserve to be in any collection and are true classics. But like the earlier tribute to Miles Davis, this is a little uneven, the original compositions being better than the material previously recorded by the likes of Abbey Lincoln. ("If loving you is wrong" being, perhaps, her best effort at song writing.) That said, I love the Muddy Water's track (a change from the usual Robert Johnson number that usually adorn her albums.)However, this is a record that still gets frequently played on the CD player in my car and an average record by Cassandra is still better that some of the more hyped-up efforts of her contemporaries. Newcomers to her work should check out her earlier efforts first. | |
