soldier of fortune 1 & 2 were surprisingly good for their day. Payback however would have also been surprisingly good if it came out 2 or 3 years ago. here is a list of pros and cons for the game: pros: the graphics are ok, if not a little buggy but they are 'essentially' high definition at the start of each mission you can chose 4 weapons and you can customize them to a certain degree. (not that it makes a difference) the gore element is ok at first but it gets a little stupid when you can shoot off someones whole leg with one shot. the storyline is also just ok. cons despite the graphics being 'high definition' there aren't any graphics options and the only thing you can change is the resolution and the 'okish' graphics aren't enough to save everything else that is terrible about this game. the game play itself is offensively boring. there is literally no AI on the enemies who have a model variety of about 3-4 per level. they literally run out from behind a corner and stand there shooting at you, you cant sneak up on them and you only need to shoot them once for them to die (shooting them once will also blow off their arms and legs!?) although it might not sound like much, but literally nothing is interactive, you cant jump over anything, for example. you go up ontop of a balcony and kill the soldier there and to save time you decide to simpy jump off the balcony, the wall is about knee high and it isnt a high drop, should be ok? no, apparently its not ok. there is an invisible wall there as there is in every little wall in the game. there are many annoying issues in the game. and to be fair, like i said at the start of this review, if this game came out about 2-years ago, it would be a little gem. but its laughable to bring out a game with such a respectable title like "soldier of fortune" which is literally crap, along side titles such as Crysis, Kane And Lynch and COD4. this game hates you and demands to be hated. i would only recommend buying it as a joke.
