added on November 27, 2007, at 17:12 by musicworld| In the late 70's and early 80's Atlantic Starr released some of the classiest soul of the era. Songs like 'When Love Calls', 'Circles', 'Silver Shadow', 'Love Me Down' and 'Secret Lovers' remain to this day classics of the genre. This compilation, I'm glad to say, has been very intelligently compiled and genuinely includes some of the groups very best tracks. Apart from the aforementioned classics this CD includes two of the groups killer Sam Dees penned ballads in 'Send For Me' and 'Am I Dreaming' which are both dead slow southern soul at it's best (as anyone who's ever heard of Dees will know!) 'If Your Heart Isn't In It' and 'Touch A Four Leaf Clover' are nice and in the same vein as 'When Love Calls' and while the remaining uptempo tracks are not quite as essential as 'Circles' or 'Silver Shadow' you will still enjoy 'One Love' (track 13 is an extended version), 'Stand Up' and 'Gimmie Your Lovin'. The only track not worthy of inclusion on this CD is the last track 'Freak-A-Ristic (extended version) which was one of the groups rare duffers. Totally out of sync with their usual classy soul sound it was an attempt to go with the gimmic riddled sound popular at the time. If you like mid tempo classy soul you can't go wrong with this. | |
