Default Beach House Vol.1 (2000) Retail CD

Music > Collections > Beach House Vol.1 (2000) Retail CD

This double helping of soul drenched, sunset sounds is straight out of a fridge full of wine coolers when it's too hot for anything but wine coolers. Close your eyes and you can almost hear the surf lapping at lazy vocals that take you diving to the coolest, bluest depths of the house music genre. Lie back, let your toes find freedom in the sand, and, when it gets too hot, take a dip and reach for those coolers again. Basically, if you can imagine what life would be like if you lived in a copy of Wallpaper magazine, this is the stuff you and your Gucci bikini-wearing friends would have on the stereo. Beginning with the sultry, dusty vocals of Blue Six's "Music and Wine", there's a distinctly San Franciscan house vibe to Beach House. Although there is deep British house from Presence ("Future Love"), Mutiny ("Bliss") and The Rurals ("That Feelin'"), the Americans have the edge specially when producing gems such as Factor 15's "Summer Love" which sounds like it should be the theme tune of the compilation. The percussive trademark of producer Joe Claussell lifts tracks by Santessa and Fazed Idjuts to a distinctly Latin plane, give an already brilliant compilation just what it needs to become a truly cosmopolitan selection.--Ruby Sheppard
