for me, this is the best of Knopflers last 3 or 4 albums. There is far less of a "country" sound on this one, which given that there a far fewer musicians used during the recording - essentially guitar/drums/keyboard and bass and no lap steel - is not surprising and very welcome. If anything there is a sort of traditional Scottish/Northumberland feel to several of the songs - the use of an accordion makes a couple of tracks sound like slow reels and interestingly, all of the tracks are of a slow to mid tempo - no blistering guitar solos! As always the lyrics in each song portray a story. May not be to the liking of Dire Straits fans or those who like a "country" feel, but this is a well crafted album, music composed, played and recorded to a high quality.
