Elvis Presley - Tiger Man (1998) Retail CD

added on August 19, 2007, at 15:13 by Sarge!| By the late 1960s Elvis was clearly tiring of the increasingly formulaic hollywood movies and the correspondingly poor soundtracks he was being forced to record and was ready to return to music with a zest and eagerness not seen since he came out of the army (and unfortunately not to be seen again). This period produced two real highlights - the 'Memphis sessions' from which would come possibly his finest recordings (Suspicious Minds, Long Black Limousone, Kentucky Rain et al) which balanced emotional intensity without falling into the Vegas schmaltz of later recordings. The catalyst to get him back into the recording study was this concert. Listening to it you can feel Elvis' nervousness at the outset (remember this was the first time he'd been in front of a live audience for the best part of a decade) but as the concert progresses you can feel his confidence grow and and by the time he hits 'One night', 'Tiger Man' and 'Tryin' to get to you' (for me the definite highlight of the concert) it's like he'd never been away... | |
