Cruachan - Ride on (2002) Retail CD

added on August 7, 2007, at 06:00 by Albanach| This is a very strange record, beginning as a kind of slightly pompous, Clannad-esque version of a song made famous by Christie Moore. The clear-voiced female singer is soon joined by ex-Pogue Shane MacGowan who sings a verse and a couple of choruses in his own inimitable style - all quite pleasant, if a bit dull. Then, from nowhere, Cruachan's lead singer pitches in with classically unpleasant metal-style howling and, before you know it, heavy guitars and a grinding rhythm have taken over for the rest of the track's five minutes. It's like nothing else I've ever heard, put it that way. There are three further songs, all co-produced by the gap-toothed one, offering more sprightly variations on the same musical template. | |
