Well away from the bluesy rock of Dire Straits, Knopfler's soundtrack work is in a league of it's own. "Cal", while short (only 35 minutes), contains many impeccably warm and serene moments - unlike many soundtracks, this CD works well even if you've never seen the film. Surprisingly, Knopfler's distinctive guitar sound and songcrafting technique transferred well into the celtic melodies found here - his diverse and adaptable technique is remarkable.While it won't instantly appeal to the casual Dire Straits fan, the soundtrack certainly warrants listening to in its own right.
