added on February 3, 2007, at 02:27 by allcdcovers| INCANTAION are one of the most under-apreciated bands of *ANY* musical genre. Their work is inovative, hightly inspired, ground breaking, and completely unconventional, and I believe that the album "Diabolical Conquest" is the utmost example of this. Compositionally, the arrangements found on this record harken back to the more abstract classical composers such as Arnold Shoenberg and Alban Berg, but tonally, INCANTATION blow such lightweights completely out of the water. Their use of crushing bass-heavy guitar tone is by no means unique, but when coupled with their characteristically unruly tempo breaks and accentuated artifical harmonics, this produces a hightened contrast which is yet unmatched in the Death Metal genre. Lyrically, one in reminded of the straight-faced satire of the DADA and Situationist movments, but this by no means takes away from the gutteral passion of the vocals themselves and the sheer force with which they are expelled. In a nutshell, imagine if you will, a Juggernaut-Warlord-Berzerker-Beast rising out of the depths of hell, smashing through a small factory in Japan where 'Hello Kitty' teacups are made, and not breaking a sweat - you're ALMOST there... but it's FAR, FAR more BRUTAL, and more EVIL than your mind could possibly concieve. | |
