Default Manowar - Battle Hymns (2000) Retail CD

Manowar have a really terrible reputation for being cheesy and, well, just rubbish. But this is not the case! Most people who brand them so have heard maybe one or two of their cheesier songs, looked at a picture of them in all their leather gear and branded them thus. These people are ignorant and they want to follow the cool crowd.
Yes, I am a die-hard fan of Manowar and yes, I'll grant you, they can be incredibly cheesy at times, but wasn't that the whole point of heavy metal back then? Chains, leather and songs about how great Metal is! You can't get better than that.
This is the album that started it all off for Manowar. It isn't all that cheesy compared to some later albums, except for the odd song, and they're still excellent.
It's surprisingly well produced for a debut album, it doesn't sound muddy or dated in its production or anything. It also has some of my favourite Manowar songs on it, including Metal Daze (An excellent sing-along song for when you're on the ale!), the self-titled Manowar which is just a stonker of a metal tune, Dark Avenger, to which Orson Welles lends his awesome vocal talent in some rather chilling naration and, of course, the awesome Battle Hymn, a seven minute epic which really shows what Manowar are capable of and gave fans at the time a taste of what was to come!
All-in-all, this album is a classic which no metal fan should be without. It's a great starting point for all those who are new to Manowar, and essential for those who already have a few of their other releases and are looking for more.
Although some might say I'm biased when it comes to Manowar, I'm awarding this album a definate 5 stars. I fell in love with this record when I first heard it and I'm still in love with it now. "That's a rather wimpy thing for a metalhead to say!", I hear you all cry. You'd understand if you'd heard this album.
