Grant Lee Buffalo - Copperopolis (1996) Retail CD
Music > Albums > Grant Lee Buffalo - Copperopolis (1996) Retail CD
added on April 17, 2007, at 12:32 by allcdcovers| With their third album, Copperopolis, Grant Lee Buffalo headed farther into the dense Americana fusions that permeated their first two albums. Although there are hints of Bowie-esque art rock on the fringes of Copperopolis, most of the album is informed by rootsy amaglams of Dylan, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, and the Pixies — it's political, anthemic rock that doesn't make any literal sense. Every once and a while, Grant Lee Phillips pulls out an evocative metaphor or a provocative melody, but too frequently the band's concepts are more admirable than their music. And that is more true of Copperopolis than any of their other albums, simply because their fusion is becoming more cerebral and less natural as time passes. | |
