Hi, first post... here we go!
Just been reading a few topics on here and thought I'd add a quick comment on how to achieve high quality scans. First, make sure your scanner is set to 300dpi if possible. If your scanner has its own software Scan your covers at 200% so you're effectively doubling the size of them. Next save them out at the BEST setting for JPEG or any other format that doesn't lose quality like BMP - never use GIF as it's restricted to 256 colors. Next load your scan into your paint program (ie. Photoshop) and reduce the size by 50% which will bring it back down to the proper size. Now save it out as JPEG with at least quality 9 and you're ready to upload. If you can scan directly into Photoshop or other paint program Scan your cover in at 200% so you're effectively doubling the size of them. Once scanned in, reduce the size by 50% to bring it back down to its original size. Save the picture as a JPEG with at least quality 9 and you're ready to upload. Q. Why scan at 200%? A. When the labels are printed not all companies produce good quality scans. You may notice a square type pattern appear on some scans. Scanning at 200% then reducing helps to reduce this square pattern effect appearing and in many cases prevent it from appearing completely. Q. My scans are still poor quality A. Have you calibrated the scanner? If anyone has any questions fire away... Last edited by Stochem; 03-Jun-2009 at 16:35. Reason: typo |
