Which do you own, a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player?

I've been postponing my decision for quite some time waiting to see which format will dominate. I hope that eventually there will be combined players (just like DVD-R and DVD+R).

Right now I've no interest in either as I have more than enough DVD viewing, recording and editing equipment. The TV is about 28" and my monitor is 19" and both PC & TV are wired to separate amps wit adequate speaker systems.

Do we really need HD TV? From what I've seen so far the quality only aids to point out CGI mistakes and empty your wallet!

The reason I have Blu-ray is I bought a PS3 for my kids, that way they can play the games & I got Blu-ray. Now what I really need is a hi-def tv to go with it.

See that's what I'm getting at. It doesn't only stop at a TV, a recorder or a hifi as there's always more to go with it.

When you look at a new unit in the shops it looks like there are a million features. Once you get to know what you're doing you realise you only use a small number and therefore want the bigger version!

I'm just a poor lowly student so don't have the cash to be splashing out on all of this new high-tech gadgetry! DVD does the job perfectly well for now and I should think it will still be around for a long while yet :)

I agree. We've got a DivX certified DVD player so most of the downloads get watched on the TV from CDs instead - much cheaper than burning to DVDs.

You ppl aren't seeing the big picture!
You are narrowing the possibility's the technology is offering right now.
For you, it is, at the moment, insignificant, but for program developers of whatever, it might be a breath of fresh air in terms of widely opportunity to stretch their minds in to greater, longer ground.
Most of all this 2 similar tek's are fabulous in terms of backup porpuses, aren't they all?
Insted of compressing files of any kind to fit into a CD or DVD, now you have the oportunity to pack-it all in, without lossing quality and gaining space in your shelf.
But yes for you to get all the advatage of it all you have do update some of your Equipment, but you will have to do it later any way, so, if you do not need it just wait till it get's a bit in the "low cost" season....!;) :D

Personally, I don't care I don't watch DVDs and some stuff isn't available in HD yet. Why would you buy a HD TV if the shows you watch aren't going to be enhanced with that technology? You're only going to get pixeling because your screen is too big. Or, at least that's what they're saying about regular DVDs on huge HD TVs.

Not true about pixeling however some tv were never made hi-def so allowances must be made ?
