I've had some success using plastic sleeves that I found in one of my binders. I tried different colours and found that the frosted white sleeve produced the best results...

Not all scanners are the same as some work better that others and I used Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 to edit the scan.

I have been experimenting with a simple photocamera. just don't flash.
It's a bit of a hassle but if you want to make a lot of photo's it works fine.

Afterwards edit it with a Photo editor.

The chrome discs I have just have black text/icons on them and this is what I do (won't work with coloured text).
I have a Canon Canoscan 5600F scanner and I use the MP Navigator software that was supplied with it.
I always select Use The Scanner Driver rather than just scan

Then I can select the Advanced Options tab.
Using the default settings this is the type of scan I get
http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac102/galgamesh/Tips/IMG_0001.jpg
I then switch over to monochrome and get a slightly different scan

Towards the bottom on the right is an option for adjusting the tones

This brings up the default window

You can drag these lines to get an image that suits yourself but this is what I use.

Which results in a scan like this

I then use GIMP to trim the edges and clean up the centre. Because the background is basically white it is easy to wipe out and get a reasonable result.

I also have a Canon all in one and never tried these tips, I always used paint.net and Corel Paintshop Photo Pro to do my editing....Next time I scan one of those discs, I may give this a try.

Thanks for the tips Gilgamesh

I now have some chrome discs that have colour graphics on them so my earlier tips won't work. Here is an example

Are there any suggestions on how I can scan these and avoid the rainbow effect. Keeping the chrome as a greyish colour is preferable.
Thanks
